She used to live in a very spacious house, but it just didn’t work out for her, so Dee Williams decided to move out and use her expertise to come up with an alternative. She also stopped paying the $1,000 home mortgage that had been draining her wallet. Now, that alternative will blow your mind.
This happened when, in 2004, Dee took a leading role in a project in which a great schoolhouse was built in Guatemala. That’s when she got an idea. Dee then raised some $10,000 and built herself a tiny house, and her friends, Annie and Huge, were cool enough to allow her to park it at their home backyard in Olympia, Washington.
Although Dee’s house lacks some amenities like running water and trash disposal, she’s still cool with it. In fact, her career involves helping other people come up with beautiful tiny houses. Dee works for Portland Alternative Dwellings (PAD), and her job inspires her so much that in 2014, she wrote a book about it. It’s titled “The Big Tiny: A Built-It-Myself-Memoir.”
